Should you upgrade your CLT based on your machine's current meter?

Posted by IRD® LLC on Aug 18th 2020

If you're interested in why you should upgrade, one of the most compelling reasons is to upgrade your meter. Our newest meter design allows for an easy on-site exchange for a fully calibrated, ready-to-go meter; thus, you won't miss a day of testing. For older meters, it can take 2-4 weeks to calibrate. In addition to this, if you do not upgrade your machine and your meter breaks, you risk being without your machine for 6-8 weeks. We have a 10KVA CLT rental available during this time; however there is no guarantee to its availability.

In order to understand if your meter is up-to-date, let's look at the different types of meters our Lexseco™ units have:

  • Rheostat Meters

Older core loss testers used a rheostat dial to manually control the target level needed to test a core. When partnered with our MP 7™ software, our new "E" meters automatically hit the target flux level.

  • OSI Meters

All letters through "D" meter are obsolete. An easy way to identify an obsolete OSI meter is if it has only a hold button at the bottom of the meter. The new "E" meters contain 4 buttons.

  • OSI "E" Meters

This is our current meter and you do not need an upgrade. If you do have this meter, you are also eligible for our Calibration "E" Meter Exchange Program. If you already have an "E" meter, but are using our MP 6™ software, consider upgrading your software to make use of the automatic ramp up feature!
